Photo Fun

This weekend I finally worked up enough courage to buy a digital SLR camera that I have had my eye on for quite some time. I am heading to Europe on Friday to meet up with my family so I figured there was no time like the present to invest in a good camera. When discussing the decision with my mom her words of wisdom were, “In the words of Nike, just do it.” So I did it.

Now that I had the camera I needed to find models in order to practice and gain familiarity with the camera so naturally I turned to my dog and a dog I have been dog-sitting for the past week. My dog, the Boykin Spaniel below, was not impressed by the photos and just stared at me like I was a moron. The Springer Spaniel, however, would pose every single time. I would put the camera up to my eye and she would look away to give a profile shot. Getting her to look at me took a lot of treats and a lot of patience.

The mini dog photo shoot was a lot of fun and really helped me to learn about my new camera. I need to work on lighting and shadows but overall it was a success. I am printing some of the pictures of the Spring out for the family who she belongs to as a welcome home gift.

I am still learning all of the features on the camera but I am thrilled and ready to take on Europe with it. Until then, I will be dog-sitting these crazy two dogs!

If you have two dogs, I highly recommend the two dog leash. It works great and they actually liked it. But it could be easy for the dogs to overpower you if they are big.

  1. Love that clutch! Congrats on the camera, I’m still in “finding the courage” mode to buy one but I know how much I love it when I do so I don’t know what the hold up is. Did you get a good deal on yours?

    1. Jump right in! You won’t regret it! 🙂 But I completely understand…it took me going to Europe to commit to a nice camera.

I got mine from Best Buy where I did the bundle for the Canon EOS Rebel T3i. It comes with the 18-55mm lens, carrying bag, 16 GB memory card, and an extra 55-250 lens. I had a gift certificate which helped a little too. I almost got the exact same bundle from Costco but they didn’t have it in store and it was only $15 cheaper (which was offset but my gift card).

You can find the bundle online at:

      1. I almost forgot the best part….when I got my camera at Best Buy they gave me a promotional code for a free photo book through Shutterfly!! I will definitely make a book after this trip with the family!

      2. Oh my god you are too sweet responding with a link and everything lol so awesome!!! That looks like a great package, seems like something you could grow into as well if that makes any sense? I think I’m going to pull the trigger in the next few months, I’ve been saving up for it so we’ll see! You’ll have to share how the photo book comes out, so jealous of your Europe trip 🙂

I'd love your thoughts, feedback, and ideas! Please comment!
