Nothing beats a rooftop bar during the summer months in Atlanta. It’s the perfect combination of fun and sun. My roommate, Katie, and I have been talking about trying the rooftop bar Whiskey Blue for some time now but it never seems to work out- summer showers ruin rooftop bar outings. Over the weekend Katie found a list of Atlanta’s hottest rooftop bars and restaurants and we decided to try one a week for the next 11 weeks as a way of trying new places. Much to Katie’s dismay, I will be taking pictures at each one and blogging about them so follow along the next couple of weeks!
Yesterday we tried out the first one on the list, Big Sky in Buckhead. It’s within walking distance from our apartment (yay for Fitbit steps) which seemed like a great place to start. This is a relatively new bar to the Buckhead scene and the review said there is a view of the Buckhead high-rises depending on where you stand. We went around 5:30ish and there were only two other people there so we ordered at the bar and went to sit outside to take in the views – sort of. There are two porches – one on the front and one on the back. We sat on the back because the front was not open and you can see the Buckhead skyline if you look over the backs of the bars on Roswell Road. Not sure if I would qualify this as a great view from a rooftop bar but it was nice for one of the Buckhead bars.
We got a laugh at the menu because it seemed like the most bizarre assortment: natural juices, coffees, coconut doughnuts, and a caprese salad. There were a few other things but they were more of the traditional bar foods. We had a few beers (and cider) with buffalo chicken wings which were HOT. I’m a wimp when it comes to hot foods and I was dying.
Overall, Big Sky was quite enjoyable! On weekends it becomes a post-grad frenzy but it was very chill on a Monday night. Not sure if I would include it on the list of Atlanta’s hottest rooftop bars and restaurants but we had a great time. I recommend it as a place to go for after work drinks and just relax on a gorgeous evening. The food was pretty good, the service was great, and I am always a fan of porch drinking.
Let me know if you have been to other rooftop bars that did not make the list! We welcome all recommendations!
